17-Methytestosterone is a synthetic, orally activeanabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) which is used in the treatment of androgen deficiency in males and for a number of other indications.Such as to delay puberty in boys, at low doses as a component of menopausal hormone therapy for menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, osteoporosis, and low sexual desire in women, and to treat breast cancer in women.
17-Methytestosterone is also a methylated synthetic androgen receptor agonist with anabolic effects. 17-Methytestosterone, mimicking testosterone, binds to cytosolic androgen receptors, and the subsequent nuclear transfer of the ligand-receptor complex induces transcription initiation of androgen responsive genes. The gene products are responsible for normal growth and development of male sex organs and secondary sex characteristics. The agent also causes retention of nitrogen, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, as well as calcium.
